Stomatological Hospital of Xiamen Medical College is the first public stomatological specialized hospital in Fujian. It has grown into an influential stomatological hospital with expertise in medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention, and health care over the past 30 years. The Hospital undertakes the theoretical and clinical teaching in stomatology for undergraduates at Xiamen Medical College. It also provides a national standardized training base for resident physicians. Additionally, the Hospital provides teaching assistance to Xiamen University and offers resident training programs to Fujian Medical University.
The Hospital was formerly known as the stomatological outpatient clicnic of Xiamen Health School. In 1987, the Stomatological Hospital Affiliated to Xiamen Health School which was officially established. In 2002, the Hospital was renamed as Xiamen Stomatological Hospital. The primary name of the Hospital was changed to Stomatological Hospital of Xiamen Medical College in 2016. Currently, the Hospital has three compounds in Siming, Huli and Jimei disctricts, with a total area of nearly 25,000 m2. 
    The Hospital serves more than 400,000 outpatients annually. It consists of 18 medical departments and 5 medical laboratories, with 350 dental units and 60 ward beds. There are 569 employees, of which 92.6% are professional and technical personnel, and 83.7% are medical and health professionals. Among physicians, 72% of them have a master or doctoral degree, and 81.5% are qualified as middle and senior health professionals. In terms of the number of talents, the Hospital has 1 class C high-level talent of Fujian Province, 1 local leading talent, 2 top-notch talents, and 1 high-level health medical reserve talent of Xiamen. In addition, there are 18 committee members of the Chinese Stomatological Association, and more than 70 committee members of the Fujian Stomatological Association.
    With a comprehensive set of departments, the Hospital has established its credential and national influence. In the performance review of the national tertiary public hospital in 2020, the Hospital ranked 17th among national stomatological specialized hospitals. The Internal Medcine Department of Stomatology (i.e., the Department of Endodontics, the Department of Periodontology, and the Department of Oral Mucosal Diseases) and the Department of Prosthodontics are identified as the second and the fourth key specialty programs in Xiamen respectively. The Hospital features high ability in clinical diagnosis and treatment, such as the levels of microscopy, temporomandibular joint diagnosis and treatment, and laser treatment technology. These fields are competitive in Fujian. Moreover, the Hospital has developed a series of new technologies, such as vertically guided bone regeneration, 3D guide plate-guided microscopic apical surgery and implant surgery, periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO), orthodontic treatment combined with orthognathic surgery, and vascularized fibular muscle flap transplantation to repair huge mandibular defects. The Hospital hired a doctor specialized in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) diseases for the first time in Fujian, with opening a TMJ specialist clinic to fill the gap in the treatment of TMJ diseases in Fujian. In addition, applying advanced equipment enables the Hospital to improve digital diagnosis and treatment and improve the accuracy and efficiency of diagnosis and treatment. These applications include 3D surface effect systems, CAD/CAM intraoral scanning systems, and digital diagnosis and treatment rooms. In April 2018, the Hospital was approved for a medical two high levels project, i.e., the provincial key clinical specialty cultivation and construction project. In October 2018, the Hospital established the first distinguished stomatologist studio in Fujian, i.e., the Distinguished Studio of Dr. Zhao Yifang. In November 2019, Xiamen Key Oral Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory was officially established in the Hospital. In August 2020, the Hospital became the 22nd national “Medical Device Clinical Trial Filing Institution”, approved by the China Food and Drug Administration. During the past three years, physicians at the Hospital have published 28 SCI and 11 core journal papers, and undertaken 15 provincial and national continuing medical education projects, including 5 national ones. The Hospital was granted one National Natural Youth Fund project in 2020. The Hospital ranked 63rd in the 2021 STEM Stomatology List, published by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.
    The Hospital actively promotes the construction of smart hospitals. In June 2019, it became the first stomatological hospital in China to pass the level 4 grade A evaluation of the national medical health information connectivity standardization maturity by the expert team of the National Health Commission. Meanwhile, the Hospital started the credit medical service, becoming the first hospital in Fujian to provide this service. Moving forward from the original medical care + credit mode, the credit medical treatment service started to collaborate with financial institutions to improve the credit limit of citizens for medical treatment and to provide patients with a more intelligent and convenient medical experience in July 2021.
    The Hospital continues to make commitment to public welfare. Since 2007, it has provided almost 200,000 primary school children with free pit and fissure sealant and related examinations. Besides, the Hospital continues to provide aids and support for hospitals in Xinjiang and Linxia. In April 2019, the Hospital won the title of Humanistic Care Hospital. In January 2020 and January 2021, the Hospital was rated as one of the Top Ten Public Welfare Hospitals for two consecutive years. In January 2022, Xiamen Stomatological Association and the Oral Prevention Department at the Hospital were rated as the Top Ten Public Welfare Organizations and the Top Ten Public Welfare Departments respectively.
